Summary Chapter 1-2 of "Verity" written by Colleen Hoover

Lowen Ashleigh was on the way to a meeting with a publisher at a hotel when a man was hit by a coming truck. She witnessed the accident. Some people gathered to watch the scene but many people are immune to this kind of incidents so they move onto their busy lives. Lowen is also the one who got used to this many accidents happening in New York. But her face and her shirts were splattered with blood from the victim.

One stranger put his hand on her shoulders and see if she's okay. The guy suggested she should change and handed her his shirt at a nearby coffee shop. The guy introduced himself saying, he's Jeremy and let Lowen know he's experienced something way worse than the accidents that just happened. That he lost his daughter some months ago. Stragely enough, Jeremy asked her what kind of horrible things happen to her. Lowen was embarassed a little because she thought her loss was nothing compared to his loss. But she said she lost her mother a few weeks ago. At some point, Lowen was kind of attracted to this guy, Jeremy but they have each other's business and Jeremy was wearing a wedding ring.

A few minutes later, Lowen found Jeremy enter the same building she's going into. She thought to herself that he's been following her but Jeremy told her he's also scheduled to meet someone at a floor where Lowen was supposed to meet a publisher. Before the meeting, Lowen met Corey who was her agent and used to have sex with. Corey was surpised to see Lowen arrive 30 minutes early before the meeting. Corey always knew that Lowen would be late so that he let her know the meeting was held earlier than scheduled. Anyway Corey is going to be the one who talks with the publisher whatever they are going to do with her writing. Corey and Lowen had been in a relationship for years but that relationship ended after Corey realized Lowen's protagonist was not who Lowen was.

A publisher opened the door followed by a lawyer and Jeremy. The publisher drily told Lowen that one of her clients was in a accident and she wasn't able to write the next books. So she needed one writer to continue the books. Lowen and Corey were surprised to know that writer was a famous writer named 'Verity' and were offed for a thousands of dollars if Lowen agreed to continue the work. But Lowen didn't want to do that because the contract required a lot of press and exposing her face that she didn't even like. She is always akward when it comes to being with her fans, anyway. Corey told the publisher that they need time to discuss. The publisher and a laywer stepped outside while Jeremy didn't. And he said he wanted to be with Lowen alone. Corey was unsure of this but Lowen told him to stay away.

Jeremy and Lowen were alone sitting at a desk. Lowen asked Jeremy why his wife, Verity, wanted her to be the writer who could continue the book. Jeremy said his wife used to enjoy Lowen's books and that Lowen's writing style was kind of similar to his wife. Out of nowhere, he also told her how thier lives had worsed since the couple lost two daughters. Still seeing Lowen uncertain of the work, Jeremy told Lowen that the publisher was low balling with her so she should ask for more money and disagree with what she doesn't like to do. As Confusing as it was, Lowen just said 'Alright'.
